The task of the project was to design as much apartment space as the already existing buildings on the island. My first proposal was a skyscraper. The inspiration for this idea was light tower which would present Stockholm to the incoming boats and cars, maybe even airplanes. I placed the skyscraper at the south east corner of the island, which was least used and gave the building a foot. It became a standing "L". After some weeks of working on the project one of the teachers took the model, which I was working on and laid it down. "You are done!" This gave me a lot to think and I started all over,but with the scyscraper in mind. I started by using two thougts. Seclusion and exhibition. I used the structure I found in the skyscraper. It was produced for a vertical building and I wouldn't have found it by designing a horizontal structure from the beginning. I started adding and dividing. I added the jetty, elevators, staircases, kitchen units, toilets, carports... . The apartment units can be divided differently. It will depend on the clients which have to decide during the the design process. You can also build after the need of the city. I propose smaller units for the city of Stockholm. The structures was found on this particular space but can be transferred to other urban areas as long the buildingsite has a special linearity as a character. The soth western part of the island becomes part of the renewal. The landscape is structured by the same concept as the build structure. Adding landscape stripes of different materials, which inhabit this different recreational functions.
