Densification as part of redeveloping urban areas

Stockholm, Sweden. Last updated 2023-03-01

Advantages of densification

Open in BuildingExperience

Together with NCC we looked at different areas in the search of properties which fit for densification of forgotten pieces of land in between infrastructural systems.

Densifying former industrial and "leftover" areas between infrastructural systems can create mixed-use developments that include both residential and commercial uses, promoting social and economic diversity while providing much-needed housing for the community. The revitalization of these areas can also bring new amenities and services to the community, such as restaurants, shops, and parks, creating vibrant and dynamic neighborhoods. By promoting sustainable transportation options and reducing urban sprawl, densifying former industrial areas can also create more livable environments and improve public health. In summary, densifying former industrial areas can lead to economic revitalization, environmental sustainability, historical preservation, social equity, and improved public health, making these areas attractive places to live, work, and play.
